Develop Leadership Skills – Perseverance

Develop Leadership Skills

It is important for all good managers to work on leadership skill development. And perseverance is often one of the most overlooked skills that can make a huge difference in your career as well as in your life. While perseverance is more of a personality trait, good managers are able to develop it like any other skill if they practice it regularly. Leadership skills development is often just good habit.

Show your boss your perseverance. Trust me when I tell you that no boss wants their subordinates to give up. Whatever issues you are having, whether it is dealing with difficult employees, or you are struggling to motivate employees, or possibly trying to improve sales… giving up just isn’t an option.

If you truly want to succeed in your career, you need to learn about tenacity. And show your boss that you can be given a project and, now matter how difficult it is, you won’t stop until it is complete.

Show your employees your perseverance. If you are a manager or in some sort of lead capacity, then you will want to display your persistence to your team, as well as to your boss. This goes back to leading by example. Believe it or not, your staff is always watching your actions and behavior. Both good and bad. If you are quick to throw your hands up in the air and quit, why would they ever go the extra mile for you?

Employees persist and go above and beyond more frequently for their boss than they will for a company. When you need everyone to stay late, or come in early, or work on the weekend, your history will determine if your people turn up to support you. If you have already shown them your leadership skills, they’ll follow more willingly.

Encouraging your team to persevere is the next step. When they are frustrated with a project or are struggling to make progress, don’t let them quit. Give them some ideas to try and work around their problem. Support them and foster their tenacity as you have fostered your own. Believe me, a group of employees that will endure – despite adversity – will make you proud time and time again.

Developing perseverance as a leadership skill may be tough, but don’t give up – the payoff is worth it!
