Fix Computer Issues For A Living | Job Search Tips

Computer Technician Jobs

If you already have experience being able to fix computer issues for yourself then doing such repairs for a living might be worth considering as a full-time or part-time position. In this post I’ll show you some of the roles you could consider along with the employment options open to you.

The two main roles generally speaking are working as a computer service technician (hands-on) or computer support technician (not hands-on). Service technician roles require you to manually fix computer issues for customers or clients whereas the support roles usually involve providing telephone support for specific products along to your employer.

When doing these roles you should also consider whether they are working from a bench or in the field. Working on client sites may not suit everybody especially if you have home commitments to also consider.

When searching for these types of roles you have to use a number of different keywords as positions could be referred to as a computer service technician, PC repair technician, computer repair expert, etc.

Many people will simply do online searches using the larger job search engines for specific jobs in their area. However, you should also consider contacting companies directly and checking their websites job section for signs of any suitable roles. Keep in mind that many consultancy houses and larger corporations will need someone in-house to fix computer issues too so don’t omit these companies from your search.

Finally, instead of being employed by someone else you could consider going freelance and setting up your own shop. You could initially start out providing computer repair services to individual home users in your district. You could simply post a classified in craigs list or similar systems in order to advertise the services. Your main decision when doing this is whether or not you wish to provide on-site support to customers or want to base yourself at home/in a small workshop.
