1. Be willing to ask for advice.
   No one knows everything, and that is especially true when you are starting a new job.  There are going to be a lot of things you aren’t sure about.  Find a few people you respect and trust whom you can turn to when you need advice, and don’t be afraid to ask.  Having a mentor is a great way to avoid making mistakes, especially in the early stages of your management career.
2. Keep moving toward your goal.
   Have a vision and keep it clearly in sight.  When things go wrong, just keep working toward reaching your goal.  It’s all right to make adjustments and corrections in your plan along the way, but don’t lose sight of your vision in the process.
3. Be passionate about your vision.
   Passionate people are enthusiastic, excited, and energetic.  When you’re around them, you can’t help but to get caught up in the excitement right along with them.  You feel inspired to do what you can to help them succeed so that you can be a part of it.  This is the kind of inspiration you give your team by being passionate about the project you are working on.
4. Follow your leader.
   Now that you are the leader, you no longer have to follow, right? Wrong! You still have managers and company executives to answer to, and you still need to follow their lead.  Always remember that your employees are watching you, and if they see that you don’t follow your superiors as you should, they will not be inclined to follow you either.
5. Never quit.
   When you quit, you are beaten.  Up until the point that you throw in the towel, your project still has a chance.  Do you know how many different materials Thomas Edison tested for the filament while he was working on the light bulb? A lot! He didn’t give up, and neither should you.  Whatever problem you have run into, there is a solution for it—you just haven’t found it yet.  Keep looking until you do.
