Plastic Business Card
Plastic business card design has come on in leaps and bounds since the advent of some more advanced digital printing processes. It was only after going to some conferences at the start of year they became apparent how many advancements and new trends were actually happening.
Most of the cool business card designs now use a variety of different plastics to provide clear, frosted or translucent appearances to the card. These often require having a thicker 30 mil card which does actually turn out being slightly too bulky for most common uses. To work around this, it makes sense to go for a smaller sized plastic cards (even down as small as key fob size) to cut down the bulk.
The real innovation behind these card designs has been the advent of CMYK four-color process printing which allows for greater detail on each card. It also prevents the amount of color bleeding between contrasting sections of your designs. Add to this that it is now possible to incorporate some high-quality colors as well as fluorescent inks means that you can really have some unique and cool business card designs.
One of the major trends in recent times has been the use of numbering and variable data on plastic business cards. This provides a way of offering competitions, unique web addresses, or other information to recipients. These can then be tracked or provide a personalized link into your sales lead generation systems.
The use of die cutting processes has also meant that producing uniquely shaped plastic business card designs have become all the more achievable. Combine this with translucent plastics and you have the possibility of producing some very unique clear plastic business cards. Older techniques such as embossing, perforation and printing on both sides are still also recommended if you can get the design correct in the first place.
