The Communication Process And Leadership

Communication Process

As most of us know, it takes skill and talent to be a successful and confident leader, and for those of us who are not natural born leaders, there is coaching and training available. You can become an effective leader partly by using some of the tricks in the communication process and partly by having certain traits or qualities, and some of the qualities of a good leader are described below.

Body language and posture are both important and a good leader should have the right body posture and should appear to be calm and confident, as well as assured, especially if a project’s success depends on their leadership. If you want to come across as a good leader, try to avoid using hand movements and gestures that are jerky, and try to avoid slouching. Your expressions and words should convey a message, rather than gestures and movements, and often the implication from a lot of hand movements is that the speaker does not quite believe what they are saying. Always try to be calm and relaxed when you are talking to your team. Body posture is more important than you might think and it can make a big difference in whether people trust you or not.

One of the most important qualities of a good leader is how that leader treats their team, or employees – and sometimes a firm, attentive, and kind manner is essential. It is important to come across as firm and decisive, rather than bullying and overbearing. Otherwise your team may resent you. Check out these tips for effective team communication for more detail.

A good leader should also be able to come up with a well thought out plan of action based on possible outcomes while taking into consideration the strengths of the team members. It is also important that everybody on the team understands the goal as well as their individual and collective role in making that goal happen. A good leader must guide and shape any project and, of course, must also be able to deal effectively with any problems. The communication process in any company or workplace should incorporate all these leadership traits.
