There are many ways to manage stress – but realize that stress in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. Stress is what gets you out of bed every day to go to work. Stress makes students study for tests. Some stress in your life is normal and healthy. Its the unending stress that you can’t control that can begin to affect you physically and can be quite detrimental to your health.

Dealing with stress usually involves changing your own behavior. Of course, you can’t control the world. All you can control is how you respond to the world. So if you are interested in coping with stress, then read on. And think about your behavior as you read.

The most obvious of the stress management tips is to avoid stressful situations to begin with. You probably wouldn’t be reading this article if that were an option, though. At some point, it may be something to consider, even if it means quitting your job. Better to find a lower paying, less stressful job than to have a heart attack.

Stress management at work is often due to the feeling of having too much to do and not enough time. If you can learn how to delegate effectively, or learn how to manage workload effectively, you’ll feel immediate stress relief. But learning to prioritize can also be one of the most effective stress management skills. Take time each day to list out what you need to get done and in what order. Cross things off the list as you get them done. That’s a great feeling.

Take control of stressful situations. The feeling of being out of control often contributes to additional stress. If you can jump in and organize a bad situation, or otherwise take charge, you may feel better about the situation.

Realize that the small things are just that: small. Most things that don’t get done today will still be there tomorrow. If someone makes a mistake on their paperwork, it usually isn’t the end of the world. White out can take care of it. Think in terms of what is really important. Perfection is rarely called for.

Chill out. Go outside. Take a few deep breaths. Walk around a little. Think about how you are going to respond to your situation. Freaking out won’t solve anything. A calm, measured approach is generally more effective at dealing with team conflict, or any other calamity.

Get some sleep. Exhaustion exacerbates stress. If you are suffering from insomnia, consider investigating ways to fall asleep.

If these few ways to manage stress don’t work for you, keep looking until you do find something that works.
